MAPA SYM: Les Misérables School Edition - Parent Meeting

In advance of our very first Summer Youth Musical, Les Misérables: School Edition, we recently held an informative and exciting parent meeting for our cast and their parents/carers.

During the meeting, we outlined the full rehearsal and performance schedule, detailing important dates, arrival times, and what to expect over the course of the two rehearsal weeks. We walked families through the journey from first rehearsal to final bow — offering insight into not only the cast’s experience but also the behind-the-scenes production work that brings this iconic show to life.

From loading in the set, rigging the lights, and programming sound and microphones, to sorting and fitting costumes for every character — our creative and technical teams will be working around the clock to ensure everything is in place ahead of opening night.

A particularly exciting moment for both cast and musicians will be the sitzprobe – the first time the cast sings through the full score with our live orchestra, conducted by MAPA’s co-founder and Musical Director, Owen. This is always a magical moment in any musical production and promises to be a highlight of the process.

Week one and part of week two of rehearsals will take place at The Waterfront UTC, where the cast will be working on songs, harmonies, scene work and choreography. We will then transition into the theatre at MidKent College for our get-in, technical rehearsal, and dress rehearsal — giving the cast a full experience of performing in a professional environment.

We also want to reassure parents and carers that safeguarding is a top priority throughout the process. While at MidKent College, all students will be appropriately supervised and accompanied at all times by licensed chaperones, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and comfort both on and off stage.

This is a truly exciting milestone for MAPA and we couldn’t think of a more powerful, moving, and ambitious show to launch our Summer Youth Musical programme. The passion and energy from the cast so far have been incredible — we simply can’t wait to get started!
