MAPA Performance: 'Oliver Jr.'

For our second end-of-year performance, we decided to stick with the theme of workhouse children and take on the classic musical, Oliver! Once again, we were granted the rights to the junior version of this beloved family musical, centred around the orphan Oliver Twist and his journey from the harsh workhouse to the streets of London, where he meets the Artful Dodger and becomes entangled with Fagin’s gang of pickpockets.

At MAPA, we strive to provide as many opportunities as possible for our talented students, and after a series of successful auditions, we were thrilled to cast a diverse and skilled group of young performers. A year after producing Annie Jr., our MAPA family had grown, allowing us to double-cast the role of Oliver. The role was shared by the wonderful Harry and the brilliant Nora, who both brought unique charm to the character. Our cheeky Charlie played the Artful Dodger with all the mischievous flair we could ask for, while our other talented students took on roles like Nancy, Bet, Bill, Mr. Bumble, Fagin, and the workhouse children/Fagin’s gang with remarkable ease and professionalism.

Before 'Oliver' we said goodbye to our original Acting teacher Joel and welcomed the fantastic Adam Waters to the MAPA family. Adam directed 'Oliver' and what a sensational job he did. Choreographed by our Dance teacher Emma, and musically directed by our Singing teacher David, the show was a resounding success. Of course, with such a sublime cast of young, gifted performers, we couldn't have asked for a better 2023 production!
